Metz and Györ stay perfect; FTC snatch dramatic win in MOTW to continue streak
Round 4 of the EHF Champions League Women 2026/27 started with four games on Saturday, including the Match of the Week, in which FTC-Toyota Kovács snatched a hard-fought win against CSM Bucuresti and maintained a perfect record in group A.
Three other encounters took place in group B, with Györi Audi ETO KC and Metz Handball also claimin their fourth straight wins, beating Gloria Bistrita and Nykøbing Falster Håndbold, respectively. HC Podravka earned their first points in the competition this season, beating debutants HSG Blomberg-Lippe.
It was a really long 60 minutes. Of course, we knew that it was not going to be easy. We faced a strong team after three, let's say, more easy games. I'm so happy that we got the two points. Of course, it was more special for me because it's my former team and I've been there for such a long time. But in the same way, I try to move the emotions in the good part and to help my team and to put the emotion aside.
I’m so proud how girls fight all the 60 minutes. It was a very good game, very good fight from both sides. In the end, I think Anna [Kristensen] decided the game, because she actually saved five open shots in a row. In this period it could come in front, but we didn't use this situation. And still we came back and we had the last situation to finish the game in a good way. But, still, I'm proud and I'm happy how girls fought all the way.
After such a tough game, we are not satisfied with our performance. We lost too many one-on-one duels, even though we had a good start to the game. Podravka stayed calm at the end, unlike us when we had the lead. In handball, mistakes get punished. We had the chance to win this game as well, but we did not show the necessary quality consistently throughout the match.
I’m very happy that we managed to win this game, especially because we were under pressure after three consecutive defeats. A key moment in the game was when we took the lead and managed to hold on to it until the end. Blomberg made it difficult for us.
Credit to the visiting team, especially because they played fantastically during the first 15 minutes. We had problems defensively throughout the game, particularly after Johanna Reichert came on. We were not aggressive enough at the back and played a little too passively. Bistrita had a particularly strong spell in the second half, which allowed them to get very close. Nevertheless, it was a very useful game for us.
When I woke up this morning, I never would have thought that I would score 14 goals against ETO. It was important for me because I’ve joined a new team and I’m still getting used to the new environment. This game was really a breakthrough for me in Bistrita, and it was also special that my family and friends surprised me by coming to the game. That gave me an extra boost.
