New and returning champions shine at European Masters 2026

61 teams participated in the EHF European Masters Handball Championship 2026 between 18 and 21 June, as former athletes of the game took to the court to compete for trophies in friendly and engaging tournaments across six age categories.

In the women’s competition, ScandiStars claimed the women +33 trophy for the second consecutive year, delivering a flawless performance throughout the tournament to defeat Paris92 in the final and retain their title.

The French club made sure to leave Portugal with more than just this silver medal, as their women +43 squad remained undefeated in this age category and secured the top step of the podium with a 17:13 defeat against Hungarian side Angyalok.

In a reenactment of last year’s final, FC Porto Vintage met CPB Rennes in the title-deciding fight of the men +35 category, with the Portuguese side taking revenge after the 2025 narrow loss and clinching the trophy this time around.

The celebrations continued for the Portuguese club in the men +45 tournament — FC Porto Vintage overcame previous champions BM Granada Veteranos in a tight final to add a second gold medal for the host nation at this year’s edition. Despite starting their 2026 campaign with a loss, against CPB Rennes (12:14), Porto found the strength to bounce back and clinch only victories on their way to the title.

Danish side Kolding IF missed out on defending their men +50 title, suffering a four-goal defeat in the final (17:13) against MHT Pabianice. The two started the competition in the same group, with Kolding having the upper hand in their opening encounter (12:9), but the Polish side put on a better performance in the decisive clash on Sunday.

After ScandiStars in the women +33 tournament, Budapest Old Boys were the second team at the 2026 edition to keep their crown, as the Hungarian club recorded a narrow victory (14:13) over home favourites M55 Portugal to climb to the top of the men +55 category once again. The sides clashed twice throughout the tournament, as Budapest Old Boys also dominated the first encounter (14:11).
