The EHF Handball Glossary and Style Guide has been produced by the EHF Media and Communications Department in coordination with other EHF departments and units, as well as the federation’s various stakeholders.
It is intended as a reference guide for all those working for or with the European Handball Federation. The aim has been to create a common approach for the spelling and usage of English words and technical terminology across all of the federation’s written communications, whether this is in reports, letters or emails, official publications or TV graphics.
We have included information on the specific terminology used in handball, naming conventions within the EHF and its competitions, and also tips on the correct use of grammar and punctuation. The EHF uses British English as a standard for its written communications and the Oxford English Dictionary as a reference.
The EHF actively welcomes new suggestions or additions, as well as challenges to the use of terminology. The use of the English language is continually evolving, as is the game itself; therefore, the publication is updated on an annual basis. If you have any input, proposal or suggestion related to handball terminology, send an email to monteiro@eurohandball.com for consideration.
