BIOGRAPHY
Narcisa Lecusanu was born in Bacău, Romania, and it was there that her handball career began. But she had a diverse club career, playing in North Macedonia, Germany and Denmark over the course of a decade before finally returning home to finish up with four seasons at Râmnicu Vâlcea.
Lecusanu’s travels saw her reach the final stages of many domestic and European competitions. She won the Macedonian league and cup twice with Kometal Skopje, and was Romanian champion four times with Vâlcea.
On the European front, Lecusanu won the Cup Winners’ Cup both with Ikast and with Vâlcea. She reached the last stages of the EHF Champions League three times - getting to the semi-finals in 2003 with Ikast, and 2009 with Vâlcea, before finishing second to Viborg in 2010, also with Vâlcea.
For Romania, Lecusanu’s career began as a junior, and in 1995 she was part of Romania’s Youth World Championship-winning team. A decade later Lecusanu would pick up silver at the 2005 IHF Women’s World Championship, after Romania lost 23:28 to hosts Russia in the final.
Lecusanu retired from playing handball in 2010, but she is now heavily involved with the sport’s leadership and has sat on the IHF executive since 2017.
